Bases HelperField notes for your Bases workspace

About Bases Helper and our testing

Bases Helper is an independent tool and guide library for people organizing notes with Obsidian Bases. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Obsidian.

What this site helps with

The generator turns numeric properties into a copyable progress-bar formula. The guides cover specific workflows around those properties: reading progress, formula diagnostics, date grouping, and filters. These are practical examples, not a replacement for the complete Obsidian documentation.

The generator does not connect to your vault. It does not read note bodies, count Markdown tasks, or synchronize reading positions. You choose the property names and bring the formula into your own base.

How we check a guide

  1. Read the relevant official syntax and feature documentation.
  2. Create a small synthetic vault with inputs and expected results.
  3. Open it in the native Obsidian app, inspect the resulting rows, and check changes where the guide relies on an update.
  4. Check the website's copy controls, downloads, links, and narrow-screen layout.
  5. State the tested version and remaining limits beside the guide.

A browser preview of a calculation is useful, but it is not proof that Obsidian accepts the expression. Screenshots on these pages are captured from our own practice vaults. Names, page counts, project states, and dates in the downloads are fictional test data.

These checks used Obsidian 1.14.5 on macOS without community plugins. They do not establish compatibility with every Obsidian release, mobile app, theme, or plugin combination. We have not run a new complete 28-case generator regression for every article edit.

If something differs in your vault, first reproduce it in the downloadable practice vault. Record your Obsidian version, the expression, the relevant property types, and the smallest failing input. The troubleshooting guide provides a starting sequence. Avoid sharing private notes or credentials when seeking help.

What happens to your inputs

The generator calculates in your browser. Its code does not upload the property names or example values you enter to a Bases Helper server. Copy buttons write the selected content to your clipboard when you use them. Downloads save sample files to your device.

The selected light or dark theme is stored in browser local storage. Loading the public site still makes normal network requests to our Cloudflare hosting service, which can process request information. This site does not currently include advertising, affiliate links, an account system, or a third-party analytics script in its application code.

Sources and maintenance

Guides link to the official documentation used for technical claims. Community questions help us identify confusing workflows, but are not treated as proof that an untested formula works. We distinguish the date we checked a source from the date we changed an article.

Pages are credited to Bases Helper, the site name. We do not claim an Obsidian certification or invent individual author credentials. Browse the guides or open the generator.
